Greetings,
Welcome! Thank you for visiting the official website for the Sigma Gamma Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. Our tight-knit chapter is located in Harrisonburg, VA, just off I-81. Nestled in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, Harrisonburg is known as the ‘Friendly City’. Sigma Gamma Omega is proud to be a part of the Marvelous Mid-Atlantic Region under the leadership of our dynamic Regional Director, Ms. Jennifer King Congleton.
I count it as an honor to serve as president of this chapter as we enter into our 31st year of existence. We look forward to renewing and strengthening bonds, as well as impacting many more of our fellow residents and identifying new community partners. Lambda Chi, the undergraduate chapter at James Madison University that we mentor, often partners with us to help us increase our reach and keep us abreast of issues facing the next generation.
Charted on December 10, 1989, Sigma Gamma Omega has consistently provided meaningful programming to the residents of the Shenandoah Valley since her chartering. Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service, our sorority’s current program theme, is rooted in an international set of initiatives rooted in the family, education, social/political justice issues, health initiatives, economic empowerment, voter registration, the elimination of hunger and more. We strive to be both proactive and strategic in our approach to programming. Learn more about our international programs here: https://aka1908.com/programs.
